If the dog crosses the boundary, it gets a light electric shock. The mild is not heavy enough to make any serious damage to the dog but serious enough to make it obey the next time.
The electric method of the wireless dog fence makes it only effective for the animals that are wearing the collar. Sometimes there is a GPS signaling device is installed in the collar to locate the virtual accessible parameter. This system even does not need to fix any wired boundary. The GPS system is used for a much larger location than the normal wireless dog fence. Both of the techniques are equally effective to control the movement of your dog.
